If you have a hearty appetite in the morning, my Supreme Pizza Breakfast Bagels are the perfect answer.
Last week my mother brought me some fresh bagels from New York City and I immediately started brainstorming what to make with them because bagels from New York City are on a whole different level than bagels in Maryland (not that there are not some amazing bagel shops around here).
Growing up, one of my favorite treats was a good pizza bagel. There aren't many pizza toppings that I don't love. Plus I also love a good bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. So I thought, what if I combined the two? And thus, Supreme Pizza Breakfast Bagels!
I started by toasting the bagels. Then I added some pizza sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, some fresh Parmesan cheese, and a layer of mozzarella cheese before popping back into the oven.
Then it was time to build the bagels. I doctored up some fresh ground pork sausage by adding some spices (fennel seeds, sage, etc.), formed into thin patties slightly larger than the bagels, and fried them in the rendered fat from the bacon that I fried earlier. I finished by frying up some ham slices.
Supreme pizza also has fresh veggies so I sautéed some onion and red pepper, added them to a few beaten eggs and grated cheddar cheese. I used egg molds to keep them perfectly round while they cooked. I stacked the sausage patty on the bottom of the bagel, then the egg, bacon, and ham. And yes, they taste every bit as good as they look!
